Mott Green RIP

Mott Green 3 weeks ago today .. brining in his Chocolate to Portsmouth.
I was called by a mutual friend of Mott Green and I earlier today, with news that literally made me drop to my knees. It is with huge sadness and shock to write that Mott Green, founder of The Grenada Chocolate Company died yesterday in a tragic accident.

It's almost 2am. I can't sleep, my eyes are sore from crying, and I am reeling from the shock but as odd as it may seem I need to write right a blog post now. I am so angry. I want to scream, but instead tears simply roll down my crumpled tired face and I type instead. The chocolate world will be heartbroken. My friends at Rococo Chocolate will be heartbroken.  The crew and staff and the Belmont Plantation will be heartbroken. I am heartbroken.

There are some people who change the way that you look at the world.  Mott Green of the Grenada Chocolate Company is one such person. An extraordinary man. A maverick, a visionary and a person who lived every moment according to his beliefs and convictions - I spent a week with Mott in Grenada in February and he changed the way I see everything.

My heart and love goes to Mott's love ones and his friends, many of whom he considered to be his family.

  2. Dearest Vanessa...I am so sorry to hear that Mott has died in such a senseless way. A truly tragic loss. I know just how much you thought of him and his wonderful enterprise, and how much you brought back from that trip in terms of knowledge & inspiration. Terrible for all concerned...but the repercussions will be felt by so many more. A true pioneer. He will leave his mark on the world, for sure. Thinking of you with love xxx

  5. Vanessa, I'm so sorry to hear about Mott.
Although I never knew him the response from everyone shows how much he was loved and will be missed. That is a fantastic photograph of him.

It's been a tough weekend because my son lost one of his closest friends in a tragic accident on Saturday night. He's trying to be brave about it as he's a 21 year old male, but he's hurting so much. It's physically painful watching him trying to cope with losing one of his best mates.

May they both rest in peace.
    xoxo

  6. Vanessa, I feel all your words above - I so moved to tears, heartbroken. I cannot believe this has happened. Ripples of pain are slowly spreading round the world as this sad news spreads and I feel everyones pain.

I am only glad to have been able to meet Mott on several occasions, but never quite got to Grenada. I will one day but in the meantime will work tirelessly to keep Motts dreams and passion alive in the chocolate world. x

  9. Dear Vanessa

I am so sorry to hear this tragic news - is your friend connected with the chocolate you shared with us on the Food Photography Course? My heart goes out to you and his family and friends - I can feel the pain this is bringing to you all. You talked to us about your buddist beliefs and I hope you can find comfort in your faith.
